Community & Compassion: Island Art Party & What Makes You Feel Beautiful Team Up for Maui Toy Drive

Bringing Joy to Maui: Island Art Party & WMYFB's Heartwarming Collaboration

Uniting Community and Creativity: The Remarkable Maui Toy Drive

Nestled in the Azeka Shopping Center, Island Art Party is more than just a creative haven. It's a place where art and community blend seamlessly, offering guided painting lessons suitable for all ages. Owned by Mary and Gary Albitz, this Kihei-based establishment at 1279 S Kihei Rd is deeply rooted in community service, especially for women, children, and the LGBTQ community.

In contrast, What Makes You Feel Beautiful (WMYFB) is a Maui nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls through the cultivation of self-love and building self-esteem. They focus on providing life skills, mentorship, and educational resources, particularly to girls facing challenges like homelessness, poverty, sadness and limited access to support.

Responding to Crisis with Compassion

The devastating Maui fires of August 2023 left an indelible mark on the community, claiming lives, destroying property, and upending the lives of many, particularly children. In the wake of this tragedy, Island Art Party and WMYFB have joined forces for a noble cause: a toy drive aiming to bring smiles to the faces of Maui's children.

Mary Albitz from Island Art Party and Monica Marrow from WMYFB met at a BNI meeting, sparking this unique collaboration. Island Art Party's unique and educational toys, many of which support STEM learning, became the centerpiece of this initiative.

The Toy Drive: How You Can Participate

  • Visit Island Art Party (Open Tuesday and Wednesday 2-5PM and Thursday, Friday and Saturday 2 PM - 9 PM).

  • Choose a Toy: Pick any toy from their collection. These toys are not just fun; they're educational and promote STEM learning.

  • Donate at Checkout: Simply inform the cashier that your purchase is for the toy drive.

The Impact of the Fires and the Community's Resilience

The August fires ravaged Lahaina, affecting lives, schools, and homes. In response, the Hawaii State Department of Education stepped up, providing counseling and support, with schools showing solidarity in unique ways. This period of recovery highlights the community's resilience and unity.

A Message of Hope and Unity

Monica Marrow, a respected community leader, encapsulates the spirit of this initiative: "In the heart of turmoil, our community's strength shines brightest. It's not just about resources; it's about the unbreakable spirit of togetherness. Each time we unite, we turn adversity into a pathway for collective triumph."

The Power of Community and Compassion

This collaboration between Island Art Party and WMYFB isn't just a toy drive. It's a testament to the power of community, compassion, and the Aloha spirit. It's about bringing joy to children and hope to a community in need. Join in this beautiful effort and make a difference in Maui.
