Breaking Barriers Together: A New Partnership Between What Makes You Feel Beautiful and Ma’i Movement Hawai’i

We are thrilled to announce a powerful new partnership between What Makes You Feel Beautiful and the Ma’i Movement Hawai’i! Together, we are uniting to combat period poverty and foster dignity and support for girls, women, and menstruating individuals across our beautiful islands.

About Ma’i Movement Hawai’i: Sisters on a Mission

Ma’i Movement Hawai’i was born from the shared passion and commitment of sisters Brandy-Lee and Nikki-Ann Yee, who saw the pressing need to address period poverty in Hawai’i. Their journey began with a global perspective, inspired by the challenges faced by menstruators in Tanzania, and led them back home to Hawai’i, where the high cost of living and systemic challenges amplify these struggles.

The sisters, deeply rooted in Native Hawaiian culture, have always been champions of their community. Through their work, they have shone a light on the often-overlooked issue of period poverty, challenging the stigma and ensuring that girls and women have access to the tools they need to thrive. Their vision? A Hawai’i where every menstruator has the resources, confidence, and dignity they deserve.

Coming Together to Make an Impact

Our collaboration officially launched in October and last Saturday, November 23, when six members of What Makes You Feel Beautiful, including board members and youth from our MAUI GEMS program, joined Ma’i Movement Hawai’i for a volunteer event. Together, we assembled 500 menstrual kits that will directly benefit menstruators in need across Hawai’i.

This hands-on experience was an inspiring moment of community, compassion, and action. It highlighted the power of working together to address challenges and reaffirmed our shared commitment to making a difference.

What This Partnership Means

Through this collaboration, we will:

  • Distribute menstrual kits to youth in the MAUI GEMS program and beyond, ensuring access to essential products.

  • Raise awareness about period poverty in Hawai’i through community workshops and events.

  • Foster conversations that break the stigma surrounding menstruation, creating a culture of openness and support.

  • Empower youth and families with education and resources that promote health and self-confidence.

Together, we are building bridges of support and solidarity, ensuring that no one in our community feels left behind.
